Glossary
We use a number of abbreviations and other
terms that are distinct to our CareerLeader family of programs (CareerLeader®,
CareerLeader-College, and TalentRetainer) and/or our
books. Here's a list of them for your reference:
360 Feedback: the option to gather anonymous
feedback from others about your abilities, along the lines of the
Management and Professional Abilities Profile test, below.
Achilles' Heels: refers to several common
profiles that we have identified which can potentially derail your
career. This work was the basis for our second book, The
12 Bad Habits That Hold Good People Back: Overcoming the Behavior

BCII: the Business Career Interest Inventory,
see below.
Business Ability Groups: refers to three
groupings of abilities tracked by the Management and Professional
Abilities Profile test: Problem Solving, Taking Initiative and Interpersonal
Effectiveness. We discuss how to improve your abilities in areas
that may benefit from strengthening.
Business Career Interest Inventory (BCII):
a test we developed first released as part of Discovering Your
Career in Business in 1997, and now an integral part of CareerLeader®,
CareerLeader-College, and TalentRetainer. The BCII helps
you to uncover which of 8 common business activities that we have
identified are of most interest to you.

those business careers, like sales or production and operations,
which we investigate and dissect in detail in CareerLeader®,
CareerLeader-College, and TalentRetainer.
Career Interest Pattern: a graphic way of
representing your Business Career Interest Inventory results in
CareerLeader®, CareerLeader-College, and TalentRetainer.
Career Path Matches: a summary report CareerLeader®,
CareerLeader-College, and TalentRetainer, showing your
relative level of "fit" or "match" with each
of the Business Career Profiles (see above) that we have studied.
Cultural Dimensions: term used in CareerLeader®,
CareerLeader-College, and TalentRetainer to describe
some elements of corporate culture that we have broken down into
corresponding elements of each of our three tests.
CultureMatch: used in CareerLeader®
and TalentRetainer (but not in CareerLeader-College)
and based on the Business Career Interest Inventory test, this is
another approach to corporate culture, and shows in detail how you
fit in with 4 key elements.
Discovering
Your Career in Business (Addison-Wesley, 1997). Our first
book, which focuses on how you can discover -- using our proprietary
test the Business Career Interest Inventory included on diskette
-- what your true interests in business work are.

in CareerLeader®, CareerLeader-College, and TalentRetainer
which is derived from the Business Career Interest Inventory, comparing
your responses to those of entrepreneurs, to see how "entrepreneurial"
your responses are.
Executive Summary: a report summarizing
results from all three of your tests in CareerLeader®, CareerLeader-College,
and TalentRetainer.
Insider Interview: many of the Business

and TalentRetainer have an interview with someone experienced
in the field, which we call an Insider Interview.
Management and Professional Abilities Profile (MPAP):
the third test in CareerLeader®, CareerLeader-College,
and TalentRetainer, which measures your business-relevant
abilities.
Management and Professional Rewards Profile (MPRP):
